Snapdeal helped Aamir Khan's ad volume grow by around 441% over last
year. The Bollywood star's association with the e-commerce giant saw his
rankings among celebrity brand endorsers soar to 19 this year compared
to 57 in 2014 in terms of the total amount of time he was seen on
television in ads.
Last year, in the January-October period, the actor endorsed around 10 brands, according to AdEx India, a division of TAM Media Research that monitors advertising information in the country. During the same period this year, Khan endorsed only two -- Incredible India and Snapdeal.
"We wanted to change Snapdeal's branding and Khan was the right candidate for the job. He decided to do it after a very long presentation," said a senior Snapdeal executive.

The e-tailer roped in Khan for its 'Dil ki Deal' campaign in March. He was paid around Rs 15 crore for a three-to-four-day shoot, according to senior executives in the know. When contacted, a Snapdeal spokesperson refused to comment.
Khan is one of the highest-paid brand endorsers in the country after his Bollywood contemporary Salman Khan. He charges around Rs 3-4 crore a day. Salman, who is arguably the highest-paid, charges around Rs 6 crore per day for a brand campaign, said people familiar with the matter.
The current controversy surrounding Khan's remarks on intolerance saw Snapdeal being trolled on social media. The e-tailer's app on Google Play Store took a beating as users offered a one-star rating to voice discontent over Khan's comments. Snapdeal later sought to distance itself from Khan's remarks by issuing a statement that the actor's comments were his own.
"Contrary to public opinion, Aamir Khan's brand value will not suffer because of this one incident. He did a good thing by standing by his statement. People expect their heroes to do the same. One more hit, and he will be up there," said brand expert Harish Bijoor.

Interestingly, Salman Khan too was dropped as Thumps Up's brand ambassador after the twin incidents of drink-driving and black buck shooting. But currently, he is enjoying his role as a Thumps Up endorser and one of the highest paid celebrities in the film and ad world.
"The share in ad volumes for Aamir Khan in 2015 between Incredible India and Snapdeal is around 55:45," said a senior executive at a media buying agency.
